I will be bringing to a close lostexodite.com as both a website/blog and a domain.
Why?
The honest and simple answer is the slow and steady decline of readership, engagement and the cost for me to keep it going. For the past two decades I have personally been funding the hosting, domain registration, software and other costs for both ‘Dropship’ and ‘Lost Exodite’ out of my own pocket to provide a blog that was ad free for readers and responsibly hosted. Those costs have sadly increased to a point where, I’m sorry to say, I cannot justify them given the decline in readership of blogs in general.
It’s time and money I could spent elsewhere. I’ve made this the last year for ‘The Lost Exodite’ domain and hosting. It was a fun distraction messing with code, but it is time to switch back to a free platform like ‘Blogspot’.
I will be leaving lost exodite online until the current hosting renews in 2025, at which point it will lapse, along with the domain name. Any content worth saving, or re-posting I’ve already migrated onto Blogspot.com over the weekend, and any new posts will be hosted there from now on.
In truth, it doesn’t actually effect much other than:
a) I get more time back to do actual hobby stuff rather than web-host stuff.
b) Money I was spending on hosting, domain and other licences can be spent on the hobby itself.
Simple as that.
This space and domain will remain live as it is already paid for until next year, but from today (14th Oct 2024) all new posts will be at omnissiah-skunkworks.blogspot.com
I hope some of my few remaining readers will jump ship to the new platform. But if you are reading this and choose not to, please accept my gratitude for all the support over the years. It really is what keeps my plugging away and sharing my humble hobby efforts.
You have my thanks.
Carl
Very sorry to hear this! I only found your Blog this year and it’s one of the highlights of my RSS feeds!
Your Titanicus and Legions work has been very inspiring to follow and I’m for sure guilty of not saying so sooner!
Thanks Martin, appreciate that. Pretty sure Blogspot do a feed also, so doubt you will notice much of a difference to be honest.
bookmarking the new blog. I’m sad readership is dropping, I love your content (including the streams/Videos you were making until a few years back). Been inspired by your work since the original dropship. Your work is still one of the best references for hobbying at Epic scale, I dearly hope it will remain for all to see, thank you for all these years
Thank you I really appreciate those comments. I certainly intend to keep blogging and sharing hobby content, just not invest in maintaining a separate platform anymore. The new blog may actually turn out to be a better experience for both myself and you, it is much more content focused and if I’m honest way better when accessed on a mobile device which stats were telling me are the majority of readers now.
Either way, I don’t plan to stop anytime soon, just simply the process a bit. ☺️
I found your dropship 15 years ago when I was into Epic Armageddon. I lost interest in the hobby until about 2 years ago. That is when I found Lost Exodite again. So I am pretty sure, whereever you go I will eventually end up googleing your work for inspiration and reading up on your projects on some website or another!
Keep up the great work!
Thank you. Not giving up posting hobby content, just can’t justify the hosting cost anymore. Hence just moved blog platforms to a free one. There’s plenty of epic scale work in progress on the bench right now and more ideas than I can keep track of! Don’t think I will be short of content any time soon.
