Thinking I may have bitten off more than I can chew. So, here’s the story. I’ve a 2k points Legions Imperialis narrative event coming up (fast) in September. Should be a breeze to prep for as I can easily assemble a 2k list from the loyalist detachments and formations I’ve assembled and painted so far this year. The Blood Angels and Imperial first could probably fill those slots on their own now, which is a nice situation to have.

Problem is, that would be too easy. Me being me, of course I don’t want to do that. Oh no, I want to take the White Scars so I can use all those flyers I painted last year and the new awesomely cool Vanguard units like the Jetbikes and Speeders.

So here I am again under pressure to paint up around another 55+ units over the next, let me see … three weeks! I’m an idiot. Luckily I have one of those weeks off booked as leave, so I have at least nine sequential days, counting weekends I can really drop the proverbial hammer. But still. Idiot!

Consequently I’m trying out a palette that is both quick to do, but should still look pleasing enough to the eye on the tabletop. To test it out I’ve started on one of the Sky Hunter detachments and some assault troops while they are still on the sprue. This is pretty much my default approach now for painting legions infantry miniatures. There is a bit of extra effort breaking down the frames to make the miniatures easier to access. It’s not necessary, but I like to do this as I can also store them easier until ready for painting. I also find it oddly satisfying as well breaking the boxes down into neat little sub-frames. Pretty sure this is one of those things that happens to hobbyists when they reach a certain senior ‘age’. No? Just me huh. Fair enough.

That being said, I thought painting the trim on a war engine was painful, but the trim on the Sky Hunters is on another level and I’m planning to do thirty-six of the little sprint-muffins. Ok then.

So, yeah. After a relaxed weekend assembling terrain and buildings, it’s back down to Terra with a bump now I see what’s ahead of me for the coming weeks painting wise.

Maximum effort!
